How things have changed.....
Yesterday we had some people over for lunch. Among the people were two japanese exchange students, two adopted chinese girls, and a german exchange student. I don't like it when people are defined by their nationalities and race, and it irks me when I subconsciously acknowledge then as well, but I think it's worth commenting on a bit on this occasion. I think that it's incredible that only sixty years ago germany, japan, and the US were at war. Now a'days stuff like that is taken for granted, and I think that's great. That the descendents of that crisis can sit and exchange ideas in friendship now is nothing short of incredible. The older generations (my grandparents) still have a bit of truble with this I think. My father's father was in WWII, and he's never warmed up to to exchange students when they visit. I've even heard him use a very derogatory name for them. How things have changed......
By-the-By: Happy birthday to The Edge
And-
A salute to Peter Jennings, my favorite newscaster (even though he just reported bits). A HS dropout, Middle Eastern expert. I will miss his voice.
