School......and Work

Today was the first day back to school and I'm pooped. Classes ought to be a breeze this semester if the professor's stay true to their syllabus. I'm taking Psychology, Speech, Spanish 4 (gag), and............what's the last one?......... American Government. I need to take these classes to transfer to Wheaton (or a UC should the Wheaton thing fall through). I was so hungry, all I had was a bowl of cheerios, a sub sandwich, and a icecream cookie. I had to go straight to work after school.....LAME. And then I have to get up up at 5am tomorrow to go to work again.....LAME. And then I go straight from work to school......LAME. Can't wait until Friday....I'm gonna sleep in until 12. Hopefully stuff will have levelled out by next week, this weeks' schedule is kill'n me.

Cha-Ching!

My E-bay auctions just ended and I nettted $273.50! About $20 will go to E-bay and 10% will go to church, so that leaves me with about $225 to play with. Well not really..... that'll almost cover the costs of my textbooks this semester...... lame........

Sizzle

I went with my church's high school youth group to a inner-city mission block party today put on by The Bay Area Rescue Mission. I made balloon animals. All day. That's alot of poodles and snakes. I put on sunscreen but I forgot to put it on my face. It isn't pretty. It's very red.
Little kids are so demanding. "I wanna monkey!" " I wanna car!". I';ve never SEEN balloon animal cars or monkeys, so why did they want them? We'd say "Sorry I can't make a monkey, will a poodle be alright?" *Shrug* It was funny..............
On the drive home I was in the car with a whole buncha the younger high schoolers (freshmen) and they would not leave me alone. A guy named Carl stuck his name tag on the back of my head while I was asleep and I went into an In-N-Out with it stuck on my head. They kept on poking me with balloons and threw a coin into my mouth while I was asleep (again). I was not a happy camper.......

*Hack* *Spit* *Repeat*

All I've got left from my flu is some throat phlegm which isn't all that bad.

I'm almost ready to turn in my college application, just need to polish the essays and fill out the personal info form. I'm getting all agnsty about it again.

I was driving home from work when it struck me how beautiful everything was. The empty lots, the cars of the road, everything seemed to be moving forward and it was all GOOD. It just sorta rang like a bell.

Blerf

Ugghh...... I'm sick. I've either caught a cold from my nephew or strep throat from work. I don't get sick often but when I do it's usually pretty bad. I get whiney and lay around the house and the bathtub. Which sounds pretty good 'bout now. *snortle*

Do it E-bay

I've decided to put some of my swag up on E-bay in order to increase my cash flow, and after twelve hours the sum of the items that people have bid on has gone up to $230! Wow, I knew the stuff I was putting up was hard to find these days but geeze. Here's hoping more people will bid so I can pay for textbooks this semester. Textbook prices are ridiculous. I work at a bookstore and I know that their prices are exponentially inflated. Why? I dunno. Greed probably.

Wed'n

It was alright. That's all I really thought about it. It was outside in Nevada City which is a really nice area. The pastor kinda sucked though. Wasn't anyone I knew and he kinda fumbled around a bit. Also the flower girl was outa control. She was two and while it was cute to see her wandering a around a bit it got old real fast as she started to walk inbetween the pastor and the bride/groom as they did their thing. Bad decision i think, it was a total distraction from the main event.

Reception was pretty low key. Nothing outa the ordinary. The band was great, aw geez, what was his name?....... Gene Thorpe's band was handling the music so it was all topnotch.

Nothing more to really say..... Everythin went pretty snooth.

Galen, Sierra, a toast to your future!

Bars Aren't For Sober People

Bars aren't for sober people. Bars aren't for half sober people. Bars are for drunks.

Many people think they have to be drunk to be relaxed in social settings. It's an excuse to loosen and up and say so really dumb stuff. Last night I watched a coupla guys from church get drunk and it was literally the funniest thing I've seen....... ever. *shakes head* It was ridiculous. And Galen (little guy) can hold his liquor like no other. He was downing tequilas and Kamikazes and Tom Jones and didn't get smashed until about 2AM.

I'm not sure what I think about bachelor parties now. There was alot of joking about "freedom" and establishing "order" and it was all deliciously stereotypical of what you'd expect from that sorta thing. I, personally, don't go in for that sorta thing. They even got Galen (the groom) an honest-to-God ball and chain to carry around. I was raised to think of marriage and the relationship between man and wife as being something based on respect and mutual affection. I'm sure the guys were just joking and around and weren't serious but still, that sorta thing rubs me the wrong way. And they kept on tryng to get me to drink. Why do drunks want other people to be drunk?
"C'mon, have some fun!"
They said. Looking into their watery unfocused eyes, watching as bumped into things and made insane statements, all I could think was "Sure that looks like fun".
They eventually got to me though when we toasted Galen back in the limo. They passed around the champagne and I ended up with the bottle and they'all peer pressured me into chugging what was left over after everyone had had some. It wasn't alot, but it was still enough to make me light headed and sleepy. Oh and the toasts? Hilarious. No one can toast like drunks. And the cap on the evening was going to Dennys. Those poor waitresses. No one deserves drunks in their restaurant at 3am.

Weddings' later today..... Here's hoping for some more inebriation entertainment.

Bache'n it up

Huh, this title actually sounds kinda weird. No I'm not going to a classical music recital, I'm going to a bachelor party later this evening. It should be a new and varied experience. Heh, :). I'm not really sure what to expect but I think copious amounts of alcohol are involved......just kidding. Should be pretty tame.

I've been bored outat my gourd recently. I need something to do. I should order some gunpla or something. What's gunpla you ask? Well, gunpla is intricate models of 50 foot robots ranging from 1/144 to 1/100 scale. It's japanese and based offa anime franchise called "Mobile Suit Gundam". I'm sure that's moer then ya'all ever wanted to know about what I do in my free time..... But it's really fun to do and you get a little tingle of acomplishment when you're done.

More on the bachelor party later.

Some people I know peripherally, Jaymie and Ryan, had a death in the familly. Their daughter, Nakayla, died on Sunday afternoon. She was found dead in her bassinet. She was six weeks old. Please pray for them.

I don't know what else to say.

Guess Who Came to Dinner.....

I came home from work and my great uncle and aunt once removed (my grandmother's sister's kids) from Colombia were visiting. I had forgotten that they were coming over so it was a bit of a surprise. I kinda bad with that stuff, if I don't arrange something I forget about it. It was fun to have them over, don't often see them. They speak english pretty well but they insisted that I speak spanish with them so that worked out sorta well. Fun fun fun.

My toe isn't all angry aymore. No more puss and it finally scabbed up so I don't think I need to go to the doctor. Glad to put that behind me.

School starts in two weeks. :(

Icky Toe

My toe (left foot, right next to the big toe) is infected.

It's really gross. I need to take it to the doctor. It's all oozy and pussy and smells kinda funky.

Definately need to take it to the doctor.

Into the Wardrobe

On December 9 a new "Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe" movie hits theatres. Have you seen the trailer? (http://movies.about.com/od/chroniclesofnarnia/a/narnia050305.htm). It isn't quite as shiny as LOTR (lord of the rings), but it has a ton more heart and emotion. Don't get me wrong, LOTR movies were great, but they're just so..... cold.... Any emotional subtext or clever dialogue Peter Jackson wrote in 'cuz the books read like a travelogue (and not the fun sort). But the Chronicles of Narnia... Man, I tear up everytime I read the last coupla pages of "The Last Battle". There's alotta Truth in those little books. Shameless plug: READ THEM.

Summer Doldrums

Not alot has been going on recently. Everyone is starting to go back to school so I haven't had many chances to do stuff. I'm thinking about takinga trip to Monterey to visit the aquarium. I really like the Monterey Bay Aquarium. It's great to go to places like that and just scope everything out and take it all in. Watching fish is really sorta mesmerizing....... It's almost zen.....

How things have changed.....

Yesterday we had some people over for lunch. Among the people were two japanese exchange students, two adopted chinese girls, and a german exchange student. I don't like it when people are defined by their nationalities and race, and it irks me when I subconsciously acknowledge then as well, but I think it's worth commenting on a bit on this occasion. I think that it's incredible that only sixty years ago germany, japan, and the US were at war. Now a'days stuff like that is taken for granted, and I think that's great. That the descendents of that crisis can sit and exchange ideas in friendship now is nothing short of incredible. The older generations (my grandparents) still have a bit of truble with this I think. My father's father was in WWII, and he's never warmed up to to exchange students when they visit. I've even heard him use a very derogatory name for them. How things have changed......

By-the-By: Happy birthday to The Edge
And-
A salute to Peter Jennings, my favorite newscaster (even though he just reported bits). A HS dropout, Middle Eastern expert. I will miss his voice.

News Hour w/Jim Lehrer

The broadcast news these days, is frankly, crap. Infotainment the lot of it, sound bites and glossed over information. THe only reliable news broadcast which I'm aware of is the News Hour on PBS. The anchors are unatractive so you know that the news is real. Fifteen to twenty minutes are spent on each story, the subject is examined indepth and inteligently. They often have roundtable discussions which don't dissolve didn't obnoxious yelling matches.

This evening they had a discussion between four american islamic leaders. Link to the text:http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/middle_east/july-dec05/islam_8-04.html . It's funny, the Imam Shaker Elsayed wasn't willing to concede the fact that bombing israelis was wrong, he used the term justice and chided the young guy, Shadi Hamid, for thinking like someone removed from the reality of the situation in Gaza. This smelled very bad to me. If you aren't willing to condemn every sorta action of violence you're giving the bleeding islamic extremists a get outa jail free card....

Thud!

Yesterday I was working in the receiving room when I found an advanced readers copy of Terry Pratchett's newest book "Thud!". I was so thrilled that I did my "excited dance". I got to read his new book two months before its pub date! I really like his books. They're usually about complex sociological/historical occurances retold through a fictional story, they're really great.

It's so bleeding hot around here, there's no release from it.

Media Fast

Today is the fifth day of a "media fast" which started last friday. I can't listen to radio stations or cds which aren't "christian" (I still listen to U2 cuz I'm fairly sure they count), can't watch television, play video games, visit internet sites which aren't necessary (still visit e-mail and the blog), or go see movies. The first few days were kinda difficult, but you really get used to it after awhile. I'm used to spending an hour or two on the internet chatting or checking news sites so I think I've had the hardest time just zipping on and off the 'net. I haven't noticed any behavioral changes, but I'm thinking alot more about stuff, and I think the quality of thought has gone up a bit too. *shrug* or maybe it hasn't. The other people trying this out are constantly calling each other to complain about how bored they are and to hook up to do stuff. I went mini golf'n last night and cut my finger pretty bad when I was trying to get my ball outa a artificial pond. I don't know what I cut my hand on but I was bleeding all over the place.
